Does the depth of this vault go from top to bottom? I can't really tell from those pics

Since you can see the desk through the leg in the second picture it looks like it may be only a inch or two deep! I tried to find better pictures on the Console Vault web site, but they don’t really show it well either.

It is not the full depth and still allows the plastic tray fit in and slide... It's about 4 3/4 deep.

No it’s not the full depth. It actually is about 5 inches deep. It does allow your plastic organizer tray to functionally work so you don’t lose that space. I’ll post two other photos

It is not the full depth and still allows the plastic tray fit in and slide... It's about 4 3/4 deep.

It doesn't go the full depth. I guess it was a design decision to make the installation easier (not having to remove the top door and to still allow the sliding organizing tray to still work. Unfortunately I couldnt find any old pictures with it installed.

I think I see my confusion. This isn't a "box" safe (like a standalone safebox), it basically sits in the console securely and creates a locked area? So I guess my question is, this isn't a safe by itself, it requires the console to be complete?

At first I was thinking this is a safe that just fits into the console

I think everyone is right on this. The "box" is 5" high overall and goes in the console. But the "safe" portion which is a fully enclosed safe/box is only about 2" deep, and sits on 3" "legs. So it is a stand alone safe, but somehow, probably the legs, must fasten into the bottom of the console, or someone could just lift it out and take it away and open it later. Dimensions are rough guesses here.

This box is bolted into the car with a bunch of touch points. It’s not a lift out. This is my third safe from them and they work for their intended use. That is to safely transport items and for storage of things like your wallet etc.

I'm highly interested in it. My buddy bought a Rousch F150 and Rousch puts these in the console. Of course it has a Rousch logo on it and not the Console Vault logo, but it's identical to this and I thought it was a custom thing they did until I saw this post. I love the idea of it, I'm just trying to convince myself to pay this much right before Christmas on a gift for me

No, it isn't a box in the true sense of the word. It has a bottom, a front, a rear, and a top that contains the combo locked door. The sides are open meaning there is no sides to the box. When it is installed into the console the sides of the console close off the open sides of the box. From the pic it appears that there is a self taping screw (tech-screw) that will be driven into the side of the console to secure it in place. Also there is a USB short cable to enable usage of the port being the original is within the safe area, but unfortunately the aux power supply is still within the safe area.

correct, as the side wall there's no way to get to unless the seats are removed. only bottom , top & front , back are covered.

this is my safe , same concept but its an different brand. also shows how its sitted & bolted,
mine is covered on the sides and top and bottom. no front or back tho or no ports access on outside
its 12 gauge around with extra 10 gauge on top with digital lock.
paid about $460 and use it almost daily for 2 yrs now
