I ordered the hitch and the kick sensor adapter for my Touring. Last night, my dumb ass started taking the pins and screws out of the valance in anticipation for the install. Today the hitch was delivered along with the wiring harness and not the kick sensor re-locator. Pretty bummed, as I was hoping to get this hooked up by the weekend.

Not sure if I should contact College Hills and what their exchange policy is. I did get the harness for $82. But now I'm without the kick sensor.

I hate being impatient, should I install with no kick sensor? I don't use it any way, but I also don't like to half ass things.

Any body else have issues with College Hills? Maybe next time I go through Bernardi.

So you ordered hitch and 08L91-TGS-100A hands-free liftgate sensor adapter, but received hitch and 08L91-TGS-100 trailer wiring harness? Looks like simple part-picker error (part numbers are identical except for the extra "A" on the end of hands-free part number.

You can still complete your installation of hitch:
  • Remove your existing hands-free bracket
  • Unplug the two long sensor rods from the bracket.
  • Modify (cut) your existing hands-free adapter bracket (cut at pre-marked location to reduce width). You would have to likewise cut new hands-free adapter bracket anyway. Refer to previous post here. And Here.
  • Reinstall the modified brackets (without sensor rods)
  • When new hands-free adapter arrives, simply unplug the two short sensor rods and plug them into your already modified, already installed bracket. Easy plug'n'play . . . however note there is an upper rod and lower rod (they are likewise tagged), so install as marked
  • You'll be left with same full-width bracket and same full-width rods to store for never future use.
Too bad you didn't need the trailer wiring harness. It sells for twice the price of the hands-free adapter.

Ok great! That's great to know. I actually contacted College Hills and they are going to send the correct part today, hopefully it gets here by Saturday, and I will need to return the wiring harness.

So you're saying I can remove the valance.
Then install the hitch.
Take the kick sensor panel - cut it on the line.
Take out the top and bottom sensors feeding into the control box - which come out towards the passenger side and wrap around back to the hitch if I'm seeing that correctly.
Install the new valance with the current kick sensor panel.

I'm assuming I should leave the screws and clips out so when the new sensor comes in, I have more wiggle room to fit the sensor between the panels? I guess since the new sensors are small they are a bit easier to maneuver between the tight space?

Sorry for the long break down. I don't have all the parts or everything apart so it's hard to get an accurate visual, but from what I see, the sensor module is behind the metal bracket on the passenger side of the bumper, and that's where the wiring lives.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion and help! I will dive into this tomorrow night.

Hey P-A-N-D-A, I guess my other concern are the valance tabs that everyone seems to have issues with, I've seen a few videos talking about them but not a full break down. Would I be coming in from the outside to release them? I'm assuming so, since the top 4 are pretty hard to get to from under the bumper. I tried getting the 4 sides from under the bumper, but no luck. Would it be easier to get at these from the outside of the valance? Thanks again!

Bernardi's prices have gone up recently. I emailed them to ask about it and their reply was that Honda raised prices, so they did also. I provided them a few price comparisons to College Hills and their reply was, "sorry, we don't price match." They do have free shipping where most others do not.

Love Bernardi..just saying. 👍🏼

That's good to know. Maybe they build the shipping into their pricing which is why they are higher. I will need to check them out.

I installed my kick sensor because it came with the hitch kit. But it also originally only worked 50% of the time so I rarely used it. I was concerned about it accidentally being set off when I am often in my tiny garage so I disconnected it and disabled it in the infotainment center.

Hi, I think you would need the wiring harness too if you decide in the future you would be towing something? Not sure also if youre going to need it but also nice to have one I think.

pls make a write up as I intend to install on sooner as well. And thank you in advance :)

What does the hitch kit included parts are? Hitch +wiring harness+Lifgate kick sensor relocat? Or am i still missing some other parts?
Thanks again and hopefully I’m not hi-jacking your thread ALKALINESI

Several threads and posts regarding trailer hitch/wiring/etc . . . H-E-R-E is one that lists the specific Honda Parts numbers for all OEM Honda Towing parts, and you may not need/want all of them (ie-tranny cooler, ball, etc). And shopping via Online retailers likely will result in significantly better prices than available at dealer parts counter.

I live right down the road from College Hills Honda. I'd be more than happy to walk over there and slap someone for you. As a bonus, there's a Dairy Queen right across the street from them. I could get ice cream when I'm done.

You're good P0nzy! Not hi-jacking at all. The hitch is mainly for a bike rack or storage, so not intending to tow as of now.
I just got the valance off this morning, and have the sensor connections unhooked. The new smaller sensors should be here tomorrow, so I may just wait until they come in to install the rest of it all.

But like everyone else said, those tabs at the top of the valance were a nightmare.

But I will definitely keep everyone posted and post pics.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Their support was actually really nice and apologetic, I will give them a pass since the part numbers are so similar. But good to know we have some 'muscle' near them in case things get out of hand.

Did you take off the bumper and need to touch the side panel as wel (I’m just basing what I’ve read here in theforum so far). And have you usd the stubby wrench to loosen that 10mm (?) bolt and unscrew it with your fingers?

thanks again

and good luck pls post some pics too 🍺🍻🍺🍻

Nope, didn't take the bumper off or side panels. Since it's the Touring, the wiring is all there already, so don't have to run any wiring. And I actually ordered a stubby wrench, which should be here today, but I tried with a regular socket wrench, and surprisingly it fit, you'll have to just feel though, can't really see what you're doing. But broke them free and unscrewed the rest.
