Broken Windshield

Last week I picked up a rock up in the upper left parrot of the glass where I didn’t notice it nail it ran down a foot or so. I called my insurance agent who set me up with Safelite. They did a great job on the glass but my camera is now out of wack and I had to turn off my lane keep. I made an appointment with our local stealership today for a recalibrate. They said 2.5 hours and $250 to do the job. Lucky I have insurance.

Windshields are no longer there just to keep the wind out of your hair. The high technology composite glass, the rain detecting wiper feature and lane-keeping camera all make for a very expensive piece of glass that now has to be recalibrated when replaced.

Safe-lite should have technicians that can calibrate. Any installer should.

too much of a Liability especially for Safety features
Safelite said they didn't have the info to do the calibration as the vehicle is new. Said they would have it in about 60 days according to their company. I believe that.

Does tinting your front windshield affect any of this technology?
I don’t believe they tint the area that houses the electronics. Shouldn’t be an issue.
The saga continues as Honda could not align the electronics as the windshield is apparently flawed. I’ll call Safelite tomorrow. Nothing is easy. At least Honda didn’t change me for the 3 attempts.
Thank you for indirectly suggesting that if I ......... then have dealer to facilitate the install. BTW. Is it possible the shield is not defective, the tech is unqualified?
Sounds like you should have demanded an OEM windshield from and installed by Honda. I had a 2014 Lexus RX350 SUV and the rain sensing wipers wouldn't work correctly. The local Lexus dealer through Lexus corporate determined the windshield needed to be replaced. They ordered an OEM replacement and hired a 3rd party installer to come to the dealership to install it. Always demand OEM parts.
I am not sure that safelite replaced the whole windshield. In the past when I dealt with safelite, they would plug the area to prevent further cracking. But that raises the question, even though that would be the original windshield; can it still be calibrated properly? I do not know and that is why I raise the question. Also I usually get safelite included for free with my insurance plan. So would probably want to get repaired and calibrated at safelite if would be completed properly.
Thanks
It was a full windshield replacement. I watched the whole process. Honda claimed the camera did not sit correctly on the glass. The also said the glass was from the same company that they get OEM glass from. It just doesn’t have the H on it. They claim they’ve seen this before.

Safelite gets a call in the am.
Great I am glad they replaced whole windshield for you. I wonder if a windshield gets plugged to prevent further cracking, if it still can be calibrated properly.
Best of luck tomorrow! Sorry for the headache!
"Honda claimed"... "They also said"... "They claim"... Talk like that makes me leery.
So.....
After a call to my insurance agent followed by a call to our local Safelite office, the Safelite manager asked me to bring it in. They asked if they could attempt to calibrate the camera. While they didn’t have the ability to do this earlier in the week, magically they did have the ability today. After 45 minutes we were good to go. We have all the safety features working and neither Honda or Safelite charged me or my insurance for this alignment.

I’m still confused . . . . But, everything is done.

Hopefully the job is well done. If so you were comped for your trouble.
After reading about windshield replacements on this forum and the Pilot forum I was a little bit concerned. Read about some of the problems with aftermarket glass, camera needing adjusting and or recalibration, etc.

My car insurance policy was expiring a few weeks ago, and I changed companies. I was able to select a policy which allowed for only factory glass and any recalibrations to be made and a 0 deductible for glass repair. The coverage is included in my new policy.

I was also able to select coverage which allows for ONLY OEM parts to be used for any damages to the car. This cost $36.00 for the year. I believe that is well worth it considering some of the aftermarket body parts I have seen put on other cars.
