It seems only a handful of people in here have a rooftop awning and would like your feedback on your pros & cons , dimensions, pictures, and brand/model number.

I made a cheap one based on a YouTube video. Simple to make, attaches to basket. But I've not had a chance to try it yet as I made it just before lockdown.

This is how I made it, but I made a few tweaks in mounting and storage (mostly more holes for more pins through it to lock things more securely.

I installed the $100 8' x 8' awning that NAPA has had for sale. The difficulty is attaching it to the OEM rack / rails. I ended up making my own rack but think if you have a roof basket or smaller THULE like roof rails it can attach to that as well

I have both a 7’6”x 8’ eBay awning and 4’5”x6’ Yakima slim shady. In my opinion, a 6’ is perfect for the length of the roof with an 8’ pullout. The quality of both awnings seem to be very similar, even the quality of canvas(not sure if that’s the right material, but feels and looks the same). Both have “leather” covers to zip up the awning with straps, same construction, and same locking tent poles. Only downside I can think of with the eBay awning is the mounts they give you which are L brackets. If I were to do it again, I’d go with the eBay awning in 6’, then buy the Yakima awning mounts. The Yakima mounts perfectly to the oem crossbars and came with locks.

Also, Amazon sells security nuts that screw on to the bolts that attaches the awning to the rack mounts.

puts you around 250$ vs buying the Yakima 6.5’ at 329$. I have not checked ARB, iron man, etc for awning prices, so maybe you can also find something better made in USA!
