Hi all, new member here. Just bought a 23 Trailsport and one of the first things I want to do is upgrade the 7-speaker audio system.

I'm not looking for a ton of bass, but some more range would be nice. More important is improving the sound clarity without a lot of distortion at higher volume.

With this goal in mind, what would be the best upgrade path?

1) replace the OEM door speakers only
2) replace the OEM door speakers and tweeters
3) replace all OEM speakers + the sub

I'm not necessarily on a budget, but don't want to replace everything unless necessary.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tons of info here on that very subject. Use the search bar and read away.
I did replace all 4 door speakers and tweeters on mine with infinity speakers from Crutchfield(not expensive) plus added kilmat sound proofing inside each door(major difference). You will find my detailed post on all of this and many more from others.

Thanks for info. So it sounds like you replaced the woofers and tweeters, with added sound proofing, but kept the factory sub. Are you happy with the results?

I bet that soundproofing also helped with keeping cab quiet from road noise as well. It's a lot of work but worth the effort for sure. I used that stuff before and it's amazing.

I hear you on this one … just bought a 2023 Passport Elite and couldn’t get the stereo to sound right. I am told this is 4 Ohm system, but wondering if the past wiring harness problems will limit options on speaker upgrades. Does anyone know? Congrats on the new Trailsport!

I am, by no means, an audiophile, but I noticed that my pandora app sounds better than my spotify app. I forgot that I messed with the spotify EQ which on top of the changes to the car's EQ, made it sound horrible. That said, ensure the EQ for both the car and your device (if anything other than the car) are working together and not against.

Speakers used to be my first mods, but my recent vehicles have proven to be acceptable for my tastes. Can they sound better? Sure. My priorities just seemed to have changed.

I also swapped out all the doors speakers and pillar tweeters with Infinity from Crutchfield. Best going through them because they can include everything you need for the instillation: wiring adapters and mounts for the doors, plus detailed instructions from start to finish. I also added the Kilmat sound deadening while everything was apart, vast improvement. BTW, I did keep the stock sub.
I'm also no audiophile especially with having tinnitus for the last 23 years. But, I can defiantly tell the difference over the stock speakers and tweeters.

So Started with more question than I had once I started looking at speakers =)

So here is my plan for the 2021 PP EX-L .. (215 Watt system with 6.1 speaker setup)

Once all repairs are done, and it get a bit warmer, I will be sound proofing the doors (they do sound flimsy, and Civic like, no offense to Civics out there , but its true ) ... its in need of some major Sound matting here and there, I want to hear that "ACURA MDX" THUD when i close the door =)

Its going to be a Budget update, I think the JBL CLUB 620F and Infinities Reference 6532ex both sound great, had a chance to listen to them locally and this is what I probably will go with one of those setups, big plus that they are very efficient and sensitive (I don't feel like messing with the OEM amplifier because of all the Infotainment issues, just would not like to mess anything up... )

Price really does not matter (they are about the same price, both have stellar reviews on Crutchfield.

JBL Club 620F - Price Around $100 on Crutchfield
Shallow-Mount 6-1/2" (160mm) Two-Way Car Speaker
Power Handling: 55W RMS, 165W
peak Sensitivity (@ 2.83V): 92dB
Frequency Response: 55Hz – 20kHz
Nominal Impedance: 3.0 ohms

Infinity Reference REF 6532ex - Price Around $80 on Crutchfield

Description: 6-1/2" (160mm) shallow-mount coaxial car speaker
Power Handling: 55W RMS, 165W
peak Sensitivity (@ 2.83V): 93dB
Frequency Response: 57Hz – 21kHz
Impedance: 3.0 ohms

My big question (and a dilemma) is what do for the front speaker setup (which is component), both Infinities and JBLs have "component" equivalent in that "line-up" Club series vs Reference, but then what do I have to do about the twitters? ... not sure how the wires are setup, do need to run wires directly from the "doors first" and then into the twitters, or do I just take the twitters and the woofers that come in one of the "component" setups , DISCARD THE CROSS OVER, and wire the twitters directly using the provide "+" and "-" that is at the doors and at the A pillars.

I do realize that those maybe silly questions, but then how else do I utilize the "build in DSP" for the build in car stereo, and make all the "controls" work. My idea is to upgrade individual speakers, eventually doing the Subwoofer as well. also, side note I do not have reservations about adding the "full coax speaker" to the rears (there is only a woofer cone in the rears)

Someone with more knowledge may have a better idea about this setup please chime in , or MISTAKES WILL BE MADE =)

Thank You!
