Joe says, "There's a manual override button that has a cover. When depressed it allows the vehicle to be put into neutral which will allow the tires to turn and not drag the Passport."

Now, my wife has our PP Tou AWD in Fla, taking care of her mom, so I can not verify Joe's statement.
Here's his photo: In the photo there is an "AUX" cover that I don't remember having, but like I said, my PP is in FLA. Also, i don't see any Piano Black finish. I don't know if all PP come with the Piano Black, so this could be a photo of a Sport or an EX-L

Could this photo be of an older Pilot, which did have the transmission to neutral release feature?

Ok, so I wont' bother with the manual but Mt. Man (who has a plethora of knowledge) posted this. Look at the attachement for post#5. The pics in this post look a lot like the shift interlock for the 6 speed. I haven't checked my PP but Mt. Man has it all covered. You will need the tool to switch to neutral if the engine isn't running. Pretty sure that Car Payments has it summed up that the pics are from a 6 speed. I had the cover for that hole in the console for my Ridgelline.

There is a guru on other Honda forums and I believe he mentioned that prices of the tool on ebay have gone up. With the PIlot going all 9 speed I wonder if tow companies all have this tool anyway. This could be a bad situation if you are stuck and can't get pushed off the road.

I worked a retirement job driving a shuttle at a Honda dealer for a couple of years, so I still have some contacts there. They get tow trucks hauling vehicles in to the shop regularly. I asked a service advisor, whom I trust, if tow truck drivers are equipped to put the Passport in neutral. He said they are not, and that they would likely drag it onto a flatbed. So I spent the big bucks for a tool I'll never use (knock on wood).

They probably would be too lazy even with the tool. I suppose you have to use the tool again to get it into park. Hopefully I'll never have to use the tool.

It appears to me that the tool stays in place to keep the transmission in neutral. You have to move it back to Park to remove it. Could get complicated to retrieve your $170 tool if you can’t accompany the Passport when it’s towed.
I should have thought about this before buying the tool:(. You raise some good points. I guess it will be good for no start situations when the PP is blocking something. Hopefully the price of the tool comes down as it has for the 3.1 trans fluid with more 9 speeds in service.

Do you have a pic of this tool by chance?

I love all this electronic gibberish when it's working.

Thanks, MJ

What a ripoff, just purchased one. You'll also need socket extensions should you chose to keep these in your car. Also, don't lose that funnel. Honda should have included that tool with each vehicle.
How difficult would it be to make this tool? I have a welder!
Thanks
