My 2022 EX-L with just under 9,000 miles (just over 6 months old) gave me this message yesterday when I got in to drive:

Anti Theft System
This system has lost power.
Push and hold the power button for more than two seconds to enable the system.

I've read that it could point to an old (usually about 2 years) key fob, which is not the case here. I've also had the Idle Stop message telling me the battery needs charging.
I've had it in to the dealer 1,000 miles ago on Dec. 14th for it's 1st oil change and had them check the battery, which they said was fine at the time.
I'm wondering if this could be pointing to a starter battery going bad? Or something else?

I had it happen to me this past September, I have an 2021 Elite and when I checked my battery with a voltage tester it was low at a resting voltage of just 12.1. I put the Battery on my Battery Minder for a few days and it brought the resting voltage up to about 12.8. When I brought my passport into the dealer for a state inspection, I had them test the battery and told them what happened and they said the battery checked out fine also. I had it on a Battery Minder that de sulfates the batteries and is rated for a AGM battery. I also checked the charging voltage and the alternator is charging the battery properly. I suspect the batteries that Honda is using aren’t the best quality, especially with all the electronics and the auto start stop feature. If my battery dies when it’s off warranty, I plan on replacing it with an Optima AGM battery, they are around $330 and very good quality. And they have a direct replacement for the Passport.

That sure sounds like what could be the cause of my issues too. If it IS a bad battery, I'm going to do my best to get Honda to cover it, and hopefully not just wind up replacing the damn thing every 8 months.

Had the same problem on my 22 Trailsport. Dealer said the battery tested fine and “couldn’t find anything wrong” with the vehicle but said they were ordering a new head unit to “fix” the problem. Currently on back order so they said it might be a couple months for parts.

A couple of members have reported this issue here previously, it's most likely a battery issue as @jppelec also described. The "Push and hold power button..." recovery message is also the same message you get when you reconnect the battery after removing the terminals, the process basically has the vehicle's security system checking that the infotainment unit is not a stolen one and then pairing it with the vehicle again if it's identifiers matches what's stored in the system.

Interesting. What is the head unit you mentioned? Audio?

Yeah, but I shouldn't be experiencing any of these issues with a 7 month old, 9,000 mile car. The old posts I've seen seemed to talk about Old key fob batteries right? Or maybe I didn't dig deep enough. The battery terminals have not been disconnected...
Or are you agreeing that you think it is probably a bad battery, and that Honda needs to step up and fix the issue?

When starting a car the battery voltage drops slightly because of the power draw starting takes from a battery. If your battery is going bad, when you start your Passport the battery voltage might momentarily drop low enough to hit the threshold that makes the Anti Theft System calculate that the battery was disconnected and immediately reconnected, that triggers the Anti Theft System to issue the - "This system has lost power." message.
If you see this message at any other time then the culprit might be something else, but if you see the message within minutes of starting your Passport then it's your battery, that is the only "power" that the security system monitors and that is why you also received the standard message the vehicle displays when you reconnect the battery after reconnecting it - "Push and hold power button..." In older Honda vehicles the security system will ask you to enter the security code before you can operate the infotainment system.

If it happens again take a picture to show your dealer and request to have the battery tested, if the battery is bad it should be replaced under warranty. In the mean time, open the hood and check that your battery terminals are not loose.

I'll certainly keep an eye on it going forward. Thanks for your insights.

The Passport uses the same infotainment system in the Odyssey and Pilot reported in the below forums 👇 and the most cogent suggestion by owners is bad battery or bad battery terminals. If the dealer changes the infotainment head unit under warranty then it's Honda's loss but that may not fix the problem.

Any thoughts on the NOCO Genius 10 battery maintainer? It seems one of these will be a good thing to have even if I didn't have the Passport...

My 2020 Touring has had the anti theft system power message problem since day one. It happens sporadically, every few weeks or so, I think it's just an annoying software bug. Aside from having a wiring harness replaced to fix the infamous crackling audio system problem last year, I never had any other significant problems with the car.
