So, we get our first heavy frost of the year and I need to back the PP passed a tree in my yard. I removed as much of the frost as possible, but I still wasn’t confident, so I opened the door slightly so I could see perfectly. To my surprise, as soon as I opened the door, the transmission shifted from reverse to park. It took me a few minutes to figure out what was happening, but as soon as I did, I could repeat the phenomenon. i guess the feature makes sense, but I sure wish somebody had told during delivery. I just wanted to share with the rest of the group, so you’re not surprised or think something is wrong.

BTW - You can reverse with the rear hatch open, but you do get an alarm

I found the same to be true the when in drive and open the door. I do this to see a tape mark on the floor in the garage to know I'm in far enough. It happens when you don't have the seat belt on.

If you ever drive other vehicles or rental cars, do not get in the habit of using this feature. I had a rental car in January and out of habit - opened the door while in drive and expected it to go to park, instead it started rolling...

Typically I never open any doors while driving (I'm funny that way...) but it is good to know Honda put some thought into it!

But then again, maybe they could have directed "they guy" who spent time on that, to design a decent Infotainment Connector...!

I'm glad they didn't, because Honda probably would have put the guy who designed the infotainment connectors on this project. Then the infotainment unit would produce beautiful clear music as the car rolled down the driveway, up into the neighbors yard stopping on their porch or in their living room.

But they would have beautiful clear music. So that's a plus!

It's one thing when pullng in to your garage slowly without the seatbelt fastened when it goes into "Park" but would it slam into "Park" if you were at speed, like 50 mph?

Watched a vid awhile back by a Honda dealership guy talking about the Passport push button gear transmission - he said if you are traveling along and were to accidentally hit the "park" or "reverse" button that the transmission would auto shift to neutral. Then you would have to push "D" again to resume. Wonder, if that's true, if the same thing would happen if the door was opened. I can remember opening the door and closing it back real fast, in the past while clipping along- like if I didn't think the door was closed all the way. Not sure I want test any of this though.

Flip the side mirror switch to the left or right, and that mirror will dip while in reverse.
I noticed the other day that if your wipers are on when you put it in reverse the rear wiper comes on too... Took me a few minutes to figure that out.
