I was just poking around in the menu and found the remaining oil life under the maintenance menu - it shows there is 40% remaining. But there's also an A1 showing, which I Googled, and that seems to say I need to change the oil NOW and get a tire rotation. Am I reading that correctly?
Car's got just over 6,000 miles on it now.

No, whatever it shows in the maintenance menu is the next service due (in your case A1) and how much longer is left (40%). Once the number gets closer to zero (I believe 20%) the A1 will then show up at startup on the main display. Wait until then for the service or as close to zero as you can.

Yeah you can let it run down to 5% or technically to 0% and then change oil and do whatever service the sub number recommends.

It’s all a matter of preference.

For me I change the oil at 5000 miles but lI do not reset maintenance light until it get down to 10% and then change oil again and do sub maintenance items as well.

If you don’t drive your vehicle a lot I would do maintenance off of time not miles. There is a service recommendation that you can find for each vehicle that gives miles and timeframes.

This is just my opinion and how I like to maintain my vehicles. Everyone does it a bit differently.

Thanks! This is a whole new deal for me. I usually just changed oil and rotated tires every 5k - never knowing what the 'remaining life' was...
It depends on the oil you use. If you use conventional oil, 5000 is as far as I would go. Synthetic blend 7500 and full synthetic 10000 easily. Now just you know the reminder is based on Honda OEM oil which is full synthetic so if you are going to follow the reminder you need to use full synthetic oil as well. The reminder doesn’t know what kind of oil you put in the engine.

Aha, very good to know, thanks.
