*Edited 7/02/2023 to include Honda's PDF for this recall including the approved countermeasure. As of this date, the bulletin is current and up to date.
**PLEASE NOTE: There is a separate bulletin (#23-046) generated the same day, for 2018-23 Odyssey models (all except for LX trim level) with the same corrective action.

Safety Recall: 2019–23 Passport/Pilot Install FAKRA Service Cables at MOST Bus Network

Affected Vehicles

2019-22 Pilot (ALL Except LX)
2019-23 Passport (ALL Except Sport)

Background
A coaxial cable terminal was not manufactured to proper specifications. An improperly manufactured terminal may lead to poor communication in the MOST bus network which can potentially affect the quality of audio sound and/or potentially cause the rearview camera to work intermittently or go blank when the vehicle is in the reverse gear.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this safety recall. Do an iN VIN status inquiry to verify eligibility. Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new or used vehicle inventory. Failure to repair a vehicle subject to a recall or campaign may subject your dealership to claims or lawsuits from the customer or anyone else harmed as a result of such. To see if a vehicle in inventory is affected by this safety recall, do a VIN status inquiry before selling it.

NOTE: ALL VEHICLES AFFECTED on this action must be repaired even if the vehicle was previously repaired using the following Service Bulletins:

20-049, 2021 Passport/Pilot: Popping or Crackling from the Speakers; No Sound from the Audio System; Network Loss Message and/or Display Issues

21-013, Warranty Extension: 2019–20 Passport/Pilot MOST Bus Network Connectors

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install the FAKRA splice repair service cables and splice boxes.

Not so fast, I have a 23 passport elite and it states "Your vehicle is not detecting GPS", and no remote start. Calling dealer today.

May I ask where you got this recall info? Its nowhere online, not on Honda's site or the NHTSA site. If it is legit....I’m going to have to say no to this one. Knock on wood my sound and infotainment system is just fine. The chance of the numbnut who does the job screwing something up is about 98%. Why would I have my dealer rip apart my whole car for a problem I’m not having?

I called my local dealership this morning. You're right. Of course, the person I talked too wasn't a mechanic, but it would have been nice to have more info on the actual repair details. She did say they are aware of the issue and said the rear camera might go black and there were pop ping and cracking noises from the speakers. I've experienced none of these issues so far

Last night I heard the dreaded speaker noise for the first time. Started on a call but then continued afterward even after restarting car. I'm taking my car in this morning to have the long awaited kick sensor adaptor for hitch installed and I've printed out the RECALL info. I guess I'm going to bring this up and see what they tell me. Would anyone advise me to wait?

This is good and bad news... It's good that they caught it before I drove out and would be without a car for who knows how long.

It's bad because I was supposed to pick my 2023 Touring tomorrow... Now it's on hold until sometime next week.
How did it go?
How did it go?
Parts are on order. I’m scheduled as soon as they get enough in. If this fixes all these problems I’m happy to wait.

Better they get it before you leave With it. I feel lucky I went a year without this happening to my 22 but it’s disappointing that they have taken this long to really address it given how many have experienced this.

When I took my Passport to the stealership last week I told the service advisor and wrote post-it notes stuck to the screen that said do not touch this recall or the infotainment recall. 30k miles later, I’ve had no issues with either and certainly don’t want them to tear my dash apart since they couldn’t figure out how to ask me for a wheel lock to “rotate them fancy tires” or “why are them calipers red and we can’t remove them to inspect them brakes”. 🤷‍♀️

I can just see my Passport returned like this and they say, sorry, we can‘t figure out how to put it back!

Putting it back together is no longer an issue after the discovery of glue by dealerships. I recall another a forum member some months ago posted pictures of his new roof rack that was glued after the dealership staff broke tabs while installing it, so your dashboard should be just fine with a bit of glue. 😄

Can you tell how often they have Passport and Pilot coming in for service? They are probably scratching their heads wondering why anyone is driving some fancy SUV on 20 inch rims in their neck of the woods.

Are all dealerships created equal? I feel like up to this point at least, I've gotten really good service with my dealership maintenance department. Heaven knows if that will hold true when they do this repair but given my experience with them so far I'm trying to stay positive.

Im going to hold out hope that the "fix" isnt too invasive and the problem doesnt develop on my car.

As far as dealers performing recalls regardless if you want it or not, Im not sure this is true. They cant sell a car with an open recall, but Im not sure if you go to a dealer for brakes or an oil change they are going to say "sorry, we have to keep your car and tear it apart to "fix" a problem youre not even having. Every recall Ive ever dealt with I had to inform the service advisor that I got a letter...or....the SA mentioned it and when I opted out the response was "ok, no prob you can do it another time if you like." For example, my CRV had a fuel pump recall and they would have had to drain and drop the tank and when I had service done I always had too much gas in the tank and the SA was always like "ok, maybe next time, just keep it in mind."

Like others have said, Im in zero rush to have my car torn apart and messed with for a problem Im not having at all (knock wood). All that said, if this was a true "safety" recall, Im not an idiot. If it had to do with the engine, brakes, lighting or other critical safety systems, of course I would bite the bullet and do it.

I wish I had the choice, but since I'm getting a new Passport, the dealer cannot legally release the car until this fix is applied.
Today should have been a day of excitement, now it's just a ho-hum kind day.

But, what can ya do... ¯\(ツ)

I apologize for doubting your report and those of other folks that said they were still having issues with their 2022/2023 infotainment system. I had believed Honda's claim that the "permanent" repair for the 2019-2021 Passport models has been factory installed in the 2022/2023 Passport models so those models should never develop the same malfunction.

Im still not going to be in a rush to do this. Sorry...dont want or need my car torn apart for a problem that doesnt exist for me (yet). The thing is, this is just my fear of getting back a car with scratched and loose panels and missing bolts that I will have zero recourse to get fixed becuase the tech that day was in a rush to get to lunch. It sucks that it has to be that way.

My fear as well.

My wife said she heard a couple of popping noises when she answered a phone call. I'm hoping it was just the speakers kicking on when she hit the answer button. She said she hasn't experienced any other noises or camera failures.

If or when i take mine in, I'm going to take very detailed video of everything so I have evidence of changes or misalignment. I do that to any apartment I move into also. Slow, thorough, detailed video. Managers have tried to blame me for not reporting water leak stains I'd never even seen before, sure enough, there they were in the video. CYA!

Curious where the failure is this time. Bad replacement parts? The fix sounds like the original fix. I remember when the original warranty extension came out some owners elected to wait for the techs to get some experience fixing. In my case they were sloppy so be sure to check the work around the gauge cluster and the panels all the way to the glove box.

This is an informative post from REDDIT about the current FRAKA/MOST issue...

It isn't a recall. It's a step BEFORE a recall is issued, called a STOP-SALE. I've seen stop sales for model years long since past, but it applies to any 'Used' cars that are in inventories.
On June 15, 2023, American Honda notified NHTSA of a stop sale and safety recall for certain model year 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2019-2022 Pilot units due to a poor connection in the media oriented system transport (MOST) bus network. A poor MOST connection may affect audio sound quality and the rearview camera display may not function properly when the vehicle is in the reverse gear. An improperly functioning rearview camera may impair rearward visibility, potentially increasing the risk of a back-up collision or injury.
The 2023 Pilot does NOT use the MOST system anymore, so they aren't affected. The 2023 Passport is still using the platform the old Pilot used, and has MOST Connectors. The shit part of MOST is that it is a RING network. One piece goes down, so does everything else. Once had a 2023 Odyssey that had its infotainment die according to sales. Tuner/Amp in the back of the vehicle developed an internal short, blew the fuse and since it was unpowered, down came the MOST network. Blew one fuse during diagnostics, isolated the short to inside the Tuner/Amp and with a new one, car was better than new.
The repair for this one may or may not be complicated. If the vehicle has a blue-ray player, you will have to arrange ahead of coming in to the dealer so they can order the extra connectors required due to low inventory, so they are being VIN-Controlled. If the vehicle does NOT have a blue ray player, replacement connectors are available through normal parts ordering. But still, arrange with the dealership to order you connectors ahead of time especially when it's going to be a recall campaign.
