I couldn’t get rear seat heaters to work so I took vehicle to dealer, and they said the front heaters have be on in order for the back ones to operate. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? It seems odd and there’s no mention of this in owner’s manual.

I know this is not the case with my 2019. Once I showed my 83 year old Mom the nice little option to her seat, she has used it many a cold day. She says it keeps her toshi nice and warm. :giggle:

From 2022 Passport Owner's Manual, page 209, regarding rear seat heaters:
The power mode must be in ON to use the seat heaters.
There is no heater in the rear center seating position.
Press the seat heater button:
Once - The HI setting (three indicators on)
Twice - The MID setting (two indicators on)
Three times - The LO setting (one indicator on)
Four times - The OFF setting (no indicators on)
When the power mode is turned on after it is turned off, the previous setting is maintained.

Which is the same information (except the sentence in bold) that is printed on page 207, which references the front seat heaters
So 2022 Owner's Manual makes zero reference to rear seat heaters only working when front seat heaters are operating.

Perhaps this is an opportunity to 'train' the techs and service advisors

I’m wondering if this is specific to the 2022 model and has something to do with the chip shortage. Maybe they save a chip by running the rear seat warmers on the same circuit as the front. Anyone have a 2022 model they can test?

Hi,
I hope this answers your question. I have a 22 elite. I ran the test in the garage. I started it up, sat in the back seat, and turned the heated seats on. The front seat heaters are off. Here’s a photo so you can see the indicator lights.

Also verify you don't have the rear HVAC controls locked out from the front (Rear Lock button). I'm wondering if that is causing could cause a lack or different of control of the rear seat heater. Doesn't make sense to me, but I've seen odder things happen.
They’re actually working now oddly enough, and without doing all the “pre-requisites” that the dealer said (front has to be on etc.). Not sure what happened to make them function but it could have been the rear lock.
