Hello All,

I’ve read through other threads on speaker replacement but haven’t seen (or missed) a definitive answer on whether the stock touring amp is acting as a crossover for the front door/pillar speakers. I have a set of Infinity 6530cx’s and to keep things simple would like to not use the included crossover. Can I install the replacements directly or should I connect them to the crossover?

In addition to adding complexity to the system, I’m concerned that using the crossover would collapse what are now two channels on the existing setup to one channel. At least I’m assuming that’s what the amp is doing as the system is able to send tone to the speakers individually during the test mode sequence.

Thanks in advance!

I talked to an audio shop owner re this very subject today. I have not replaced my tweeters yet. But he said if the OEM tweeters have an attached capacitor, then use the supplied crossover set to 0db , if not, then do not use the supplied crossover. Hope this helps.

Thanks! The stock tweeters definitely have the bass blocker caps, guess that means the Infinity crossover is needed. It's a bit clunky though. Does anyone know if I could get away with using something like this?

Crutchfield Bass Blocker

Also, for the door speakers, any idea if crossovers are needed there? My reading turned up minion of limiting lower bass frequencies to the sub.

YES--those should work, but you may want to call Crutchfield as well...

Audio shop told me to not install the door speaker crossovers. I did not and the bass is great.

Thanks all!

It occurred to me that it would be simple to test whether the amp is providing crossover function to the tweeter, so I disconnected the passenger door speaker, moved fader/balance to the front right, and connected the 6.5” woofer from the 6530cx to the tweeter wires in the front passenger piller. Definitely no mid or low range coming through there. Repeated the process with a 6.5” 6512is two way speaker, and saw the same. Lots of highs, but no mids or lows. I also put the two-ways in the doors, and the tweeters definitely were putting out highs, but I don’t think that comes as a surprise to most readers.

Perhaps the caps attached directly to the stock positive tweeter lead are a fail safe in case an owner replaces the stock amp?

I see the caps on the stock tweeters are 10uf, which is what I’ll install inline with the new set.

Took some video that I’ll upload once I figure out how.

If the results of my unscientific test described above is valid, then I think you’re right.

I finished installing the set, and now wonder if I should have added bass blockers to the 6.5" woofers in the doors.

Quality 6.5s can put out excellent bass. The subwoofer thumping is what shakes your mirrors and rattles your spine.
well....

I'm betting even though the system in the passport doesn't send low frequencies to the tweeter, that they used the same tweeter part in the Passport that they used in other Hondas, which send full range to the tweeter.
