Its only happened a few times in the past month or so, maybe 6 times.

Im parked somewhere and I start the engine and put it into Drive and the display says to "Shift into Park".
Why? I was just IN park dude!

Usually if I shift it into park it will let me shift back into drive, but it has on at least a coupld of occasions,
repeated the "Shift into park" mantra more than once. I had to shut off the engine and try again.

Any ideas on what this mystery instruction is about?

Its a switch so...hmmm. Its as if it thinks you are about to shut down and get out. Does it disappear if you select N?

Nothing worse than going to a dealer with an intermittent fault that doesn't show up when you are there.

Mines does that! It's the way it's designed, and it's normal. Just ignore it. The Passport's system is set to where if you're sitting in Park with the engine running then hit Drive and you just sit there for a few with your foot on the brake too long it "Recommends" you to hit "Park' again because it thinks you're not ready to "Drive" yet, but as soon as you start driving it goes away. Now, if your door is not fully closed it will automatically put itself in Park, It will keep going into Park even if you hit "D" again until you close your door properly.

Itteresting, Im not really "sitting in drive" when it happens, when it does happen it happens right after shifting into drive. But now that I know that I guess I can ignore it. It has only happened a handful of times.

By “sitting in drive” I mean stationary while in drive mode, It’s a programmed safety precaution warning. If the foot’s on break or NOT on neither pedals. If the engine is running, if you’re stopped in D right after P or no input from pedals it will trigger the message because it “thinks” people are getting out or in.

Weird. At least its not a transmission fault! Because thats what I thought it was.

Put your seatbelt on. It's a safety control to not let the driver move the car.
