Hey everyone. I’m on my 2nd Passport after my first was lemoned and I got this message back in the winter. Took it to the dealer and they said no codes were stored and thought it may have been a fluke issue. Fast forward to today. I put it in reverse to back out of a parking spot and when I push the accelerator, it rolls forward into the curb and displays the same message for a second. Every time it goes to neutral and I have to shift again. I noticed this seems to have been an issue in the 2019 model year? Did anyone have this issue and a fix? If so, what was the resolution?

I want so badly to like this car. I just wish that if an error message is triggered, the corresponding issue would be saved no matter what. Having spent 4 months tracking down the first Passport’s issue with it ending with the GM of my dealer giving up and essentially swapping it out for a brand new one off the truck, I just want to enjoy the car I’m paying for.

End rant

Keep trying.
I've made, almost to the 3 year mark and am willing to cut my losses this Fall, with Honda.

My 2019 Sport (Canada) has never shown this. It does sometimes hesitate when coming to quick stop and then I want to get going again. Sometimes, in these situations it seems to "hunt" for a gear. I think the computer and programming have it designed to follow a deceleration pattern and I mix it up when I ask it to change it's mind too quickly.

This does not seem to be what you are experiencing though.

My 2021 Passport takes a long time to go into gear. The dealer says that it's normal. I would experience the problem at top signs or signal controlled intersections with the start/stop enabled. With the start/stop disabled there is no problem.

On another issue, what extended warranty do you have? I've heard horror stories that they don't pay as agreed.

Our warranty is with Fidelity and they took care of almost all the towing of over 40 miles to a Honda dealership, rental car for 2 weeks and replacement of transmission. They first wanted to use a transmission from a wreaked vehicle but it didn’t pass inspection so we got a refurbished one from Honda. I have never purchased a warranty but glad I did as it only cost be just over $1,500 for 5 years/100,000 miles and this total express was over $12,000.

We are in the same position of the computer didn’t save a code when it displayed the error and shifted to neutral. I went ahead and called American Honda and spoke to a case manager. I explained the entire situation from Passport #1 to now. This whole situation has kept me on edge so when she asked what I am wanting Honda to do, I said “well number one is fix my car. That seems easy. If you can’t do that, buy it back!” I know I can be a bit dramatic but I was surprised by her response. It was “a transmission replacement is a tough sell with no codes. If that happens, we can get the buyback process started.” I really expected a bit more of a defense but I may be reading more into it than is actually there. Anywho, I’m looking forward to putting this behind me with either a fixed Passport or something different.

We are still in the same boat where the transmission periodically displays the error message and shifts into neutral. I submitted the final repair attempt letter according to my state’s lemon law and a rep from their Mediation Dept scheduled a field tech to come fix it. They looked at it for 2 days and said they couldn’t reproduce the issue as seen in the video I provided but recommended I keep the transmission in park until I was ready to drive. I’m not sure if that means just when I’m actually parked or stopped at a stop light. I’m sure he meant the former but even then, I don’t shift out of park and just sit still. I shift when I’m ready to go. Anyway, it’s still not fixed so I submitted a demand letter for a refund and now I’m waiting on that. It’s a disappointing end to this saga but now I’m on to the next. Has anyone dealt with Honda’s Mediation group and have any advice on what to expect?

I have the same issue currently. if anyone had any insight as to the actual problem, I would appreciate the input. The dealer was nice enough to not explain to my wife that they will be charging $175 for the diagnositic and most likely will not be able to do anything regardless if the light is not illuminated on the dashboard. What type of car triggers codes with a car that is not driveable, and then does not store the code in the computer to allow for diagnosis and resolution?

Good luck my friend. We went through arbitration and the arbitrator sided with Honda that without a diagnostic code, no problem existed. It was disappointing and worth the effort but expected. Even through that, they made it somewhat right and I’m in a 2023 Pilot. This one is designed and built with the quality I expected from Honda (very similar to my 2019 Accord) and has been great
