I am looking at Sport AWD models. I was recently given an "out the door" quote of:

Sale Price: $30,221
Protection Package (Splash Guards, Cargo Tray and Wheel Locks): $499
Doc. Fee: $598
Sales Tax: $939.54
Tag: $104

Total: $32,361.54

Thoughts?

I would tell the dealer you do not want the security package. Reason being is that you can get the cargo tray, and splash gaurds for around 200 bucks plus the wheel locks for another 50 or so. you just need to research around the web and see who has the best price.
Some dealers may want to move the 2019s so I would haggle a little bit and see if they can go down in price some more OTD.

Icasperson,
I agree with being able to find the splash guards, wheel locks and cargo tray for cheaper. I am hoping to get the price lower, but I am in the beginning stages of my search/purchase plan. Thanks for the response!

In my area, half of the Honda dealers use Edmunds dot com, for "hot leads" and the other half use TrueCar dot com.
Go to the truecar dot com web site and sign up.
Choose the Passport trim that you want.
Click on Find True Price
Write down the names of these (TrueCar) recommended dealers and print out the best offer.
Google search for all Honda dealers in your area.
Contact the internet sales team, of only the dealers that are not on your truecar list.
Tell them to beat your best deal (it will require you to forward your truecar offer).
If they don't sweeten the deal, the worst you can do is to actually go to the truecar dealership.

Carpayments4life,
Thanks for the recommendation. I set up a TRUE Car account and instantly started getting emails and calls from dealers in my area. Not ideal, but I believe I am close to where I would like to be (find as an acceptable price). Thanks for the response!

When I made my Touring purchase, it was not from one of the TrueCar recommended dealers. I called 3 other non TC dealers and forwarded the TC quote.

I agree, have them knock of $500 for the Protection Package (Splash Guards, Cargo Tray and Wheel Locks)

You can buy and install all three of those in an hour at half the price:
Mud Flaps: $75
Wheel Locks: $58
Cargo Tray: $77
Total: $210

StephenD,
Thanks for the input. I was thinking the same as well. I'm down to my "decent price" in verbal negotiations (which means nothing until it's on paper). I'm not trying to be greedy and/or cheap, but I have been pleased with the experience so far. If I can get lower than where I am now (since reading everyone's inputs), all the better for me. I believe choosing the Sport model has helped as well. I don't need a lot of the features in the upper models.

Hopefully this isn't too late. I just bought a 2019 Passport Sport AWD. Without additional add-ons I paid 28,531 + GAP at $795.00. They over charge for mudguards etc. With Honda Financing the lowest rate they had me at was 4.95% 60 mos. Planning to refinance asap.

Just curious on the GAP coverage. IMMSMC, GAP is required for a lease (haven’t done a lease in a long time), but does Honda Finance require it on a purchase? Can GAP be purchased elsewhere for less money?

2019 Sport AWD Silver. purchased 1/28/2020

Price: 28,007 + 599 doc + tax/tag/title

Accessories: rubber floor and cargo mats, mud flaps, locking wheel nuts, and body side molding. The negotiated price did not include add-ons, but my vehicle was shipped from another dealer with the accessories previously installed (my dealer did not charge me for the extras). I really like the rubber floor/cargo mats and mud flaps.
