We recently purchased a new 2019 at our local dealership and are happy with the car.

Lately the automatic door locking feature seems to be failing, yes it is selected in the menu.

More alarming is the occasional failure to start. Doors will unlock and accessory mode will come on, so I believe the car is seeing the fob. When the brake is depressed and the start button pushed nothing happens, its as if the car thinks the engine is running. Pressing the park or drive buttons, exiting the vehicle and starting over have all been attempted. And yes, this is with both fobs.

The dealership looked at the car and of course found nothing wrong. There is not a lot out there regarding this issue, any ideas?

Hmmmm......
I suppose you've tried pressing the brake extra hard while depressing start/stop button..

Tight battery cables, fully charged.....

Thanks for the quick replies. It appears as if the battery charge level is not an issue as when the car does decide to start it does so with normal effort.

The car does eventually start and there does not seem to be one particular sequence of steps that allow the engine to start.

It is almost as if there is one input that the computer is not seeing and as a result not sending the start signal to the starter.

The car is off to the dealership again tomorrow morning. I will post when I have more information.

there is some simple troubleshooting you can do and eliminate the battery as a leading causa.

if you have a multi-meter handy, check the voltage on the battery when the car is off and everything is off.
the voltage should read something along the lines of 12.2-12.6 volts for a battery that is good enough to start the engine.
if the voltage is any lower, sounds like a shot battery.

Also since you already have the multi meter out, you can also check to see if your alternator is charging properly.
while the car is at idle and at operating temperature, check the voltage on the battery, should read above 13 volts.
usually its 13.5-14.5 volts while engine is at idle and alternator is charging properly.

and as MOAB JUNKY ⬆⬆⬆ said, tight battery cables and terminals.

Do you have another dealer you can take it to?
If not, tell the service advisor you insist on another mechanic/tech work on it!
