It was beautiful! Still didn’t get to see any bears though..
We had two bear sightings on our trip through the Smokey last year. Cars and people caused traffic congestion. In both cases, the bear was a little distance off the road and high in a tree taking a nap.

Also, a curious thing. Cars were beeping their horns for fun while driving through the tunnels. Didn't realize that people still did that? Made me laugh and I rev'ed my engine with the loud exhaust instead!

Haha that’s funny you mention the tunnel thing because when we went through a tunnel in Gatlinburg someone started honking so of course I had to join in! My wife asked if that was a thing and I was like oh yes!

We have been to the Smokey’s twice, Yosemite, sequoia, and the ozarks and have never seen a bear in the Forest.. however when leaving the ozarks on our trip back down the mountain a black bear randomly ran across the road in front of us! It was kinda ironic considering the amount of time we’ve spent looking through trees, creeks, mountains and NEVER seem to see them but one just jumps out on the road in front of us lol!

Yes, the unexpected wildlife encounters are the best! On our last road trip this year, we were fortunate to encounter a lot of wildlife on our route. In particular, Beartooth Highway lives up to the hype for the scenery, driving road (popular for motorcycles) and wildlife viewing. The highlight was the mountain goats near the summit. Beartooth is closed during the winter months. From Montana (east side), it leads into Yellowstone National Park (west side) with a good amount of wildlife and and abundance of geological wonders. Grand Tetons are to the south.
